CUYHA Board

CUYHA is a 501(c) 3 Not-for-profit organization founded in 1966 to serve the needs of the youth ice hockey players in Champaign Urbana and surrounding areas. Its purpose is to:

“plan, operate, and promote the local youth hockey program. This program provides instruction in the fundamentals of skating and hockey, as well as intermediate and advanced instruction and game competition. It encourages and develops responsibility, confidence, sportsmanship, teamwork and physical fitness.”

Volunteers Always Needed!

The health of any organization is based in-part upon it's volunteer base. CUYHA is no exception! Throughout the year volunteers are needed a variety of things, even if you'd rather not be on Board.

  • HL and Minor Hawks Registration - early in season helping to distribute information about sign-ups. Contact Teri Weems
  • Locker room assistance for lacing skates (younger kids) and putting on equipment (new parents); Contact Coaches
  • Game volunteers for music, scorekeeping, penalty box and clock; Team Reps
  • Car pooling, especially for Danville practices and away games; Contact Coaches
  • Fundraisers - help coordinating, encouraging your skaters to participate, distributing information and emailing friends - Contact Brian Hannon
  • Photo night - reminding and helping get kids on ice for photos - Contact Teri Weems
  • Tournaments - decorations, registration, snacks, goodie bags, program, gift baskets, announcers, advertising sales, game volunteers, etc. Contact Pam Appelquist
  • Annual Parade of Lights event in early December - arranging details and communicating information, gaining skater/parent commitment, making hot chocolate, printing flyers, etc. Contact Martin Wu
  • Banquet - decorations, cake, balloons and other things as needed. Contact Martin Wu
