President's Letter & Registration Update

July 24, 2019

Dear Hockey Families:

I hope you are looking forward to the start of the 2019-2020 season as much as I am! CUYHA had a great 2018-2019 season, with many new skaters trying hockey for the first time via Minor Hawks and fielding successful teams at all levels. CUYHA had multiple teams which won tournaments and competed at high levels and, of course, we had our undefeated, repeat champion Lincoln Land High School team. We even, for the first time in my tenure on the Board, fielded 2 travel teams at the Squirt and Pee Wee levels.

This year’s hockey season is just around the corner and soon your evenings of sweltering baseball, swimming, tennis and golf will be replaced with evenings at the rink. We are finalizing the conditioning, tryouts and fall schedule, but the preliminary dates are as follows:

● We will hold our conditioning camps (“mini-camps”) at the U of I Ice Arena the week of August 19th.

● Tryouts are tentatively scheduled for the following dates and times:

● Monday, August 26th : 7:00-7:50 (14U) and 7:50 - 8:45 (HS)

● Tuesday, August 27th : 6:00-6:55 (10U), 6:55 - 7:50 (12U), 8:05 - 9:00 (14U), 9:00 - 10:00 (HS)

● Thursday, August 29th: 6:00-7:00 (10U) and 7:00 - 8:00 (12U)

You may notice that AHAI has allowed us to hold tryouts earlier than September 1 this year to help the Labor Day holiday interfering with tryouts. I highly encourage all skaters to tryout for travel teams. We will hold a mandatory travel team meeting after Labor Day. The travel team schedules will likely be the same as in previous years with two scheduled practices per week with games on the weekends. I also plan to encourage coaches to schedule dryland training and film study as they deem appropriate.

One final note – Details about our House League and Minor Hawks programs will be announced soon. Registration for those programs will on or about September 1, with practices starting around October 1st at the U of I.

If you have questions or comments, please email me at the address below.
