Home of the Chiefs
Thanks for visiting the online home of the CUYHA Chiefs.  On this site, you will find general information about our youth hockey programs.  Please explore the site and click on the Contact Us link if you have additional questions.
CUYHA offers many ways for boys & girls to get into the great game of ice hockey:

Minor Hawks - A Chicago Blackhawks-sponsored program for kids ages 5-8 that introduces kids to skating, ice hockey equipment, and basic skills instruction.

House League - geared towards kids ages 5-12 (8U and 12U) who have some confidence skating, but still need skill development before playing competitive hockey.

Travel teams - Teams at all age levels that have regular practices (2-3/week) and who enjoy an enhanced team atmosphere.  Skaters test their skill development through game play against other youth hockey organizations in Illinois and surrounding regions.

  • Commitment to 12U house league
In light of the registration numbers at tryouts and the interest expressed to us by multiple families, the CUYHA board has decided to commit to offering a 12U house league for the 2014-2015 season.  We will offer this program even if we do not reach the 25 skater minimum we had previously required.  We hope this helps some families in their decision making process.

  • CUYHA tryout update

    Dear hockey families,

The CUYHA board does its best to forecast the number of teams we can sponsor at each level and our best guide is the number of skaters who sign up for conditioning camps and tryouts.  This year, we have had a strong showing at conditioning camps, but many of these skaters have not yet registered for tryouts.  In addition, there might be others who are interested in travel hockey but haven't registered for tryouts.  We are writing to encourage you to sign up for tryouts ASAP.  The cost is low - just $15 for two skates.  Register here:

Here is our forecast for teams based on current registrations:

    Mite - between 1 and 2 teams

    Squirt - between 1 and 2 teams

Pee Wee - between 1 and 2 teams

    Bantam - 1 team

    HS/Midget - 1 team

At each level, the first team (labeled AA) will play in NIHL (the Chicago-based league) while the 2nd team (labeled A) would play in CIHL, which is the Central Illinois Hockey League.  CIHL is a group of organizations that this year includes Bloomington, Springfield, and Decatur (Pekin might join too).  The A teams would play in the CIHL games, which are typically 2 home and 2 away games at each participating location, as well as any other games and tournaments the teams decide to schedule. The A team skaters would register and be a part of House League as their primary practice ice, but would also have team practices 2-3 times per month.

Please register for tryouts ASAP and let me know if you have any additional questions.
