Learn to Play

CUYHA is offering Learn-To-Play for this winter session. LTP includes 8 sessions of developmentally appropriate practices that focus on foundational skating and hockey skills to get your player comfortable being on the ice and in their hockey gear.

Ages

Learn to Play is designed for players age 5-9 that have have completed 0-1 sessions of an introductory hockey program. No skating experience is necessary.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my child need to have skating experience?

No. Learn-To-Play and Little Blackhawks are designed to take a player from zero experience to entry level hockey skills.

What is the difference between House and Learn-To-Skate?

House is for 6-12 year old children who have the ability to control movement and can move autonomously on the ice. It is recommended that players complete 2 sessions of Learn-To-Play, Little Blackhawks or Learn to Skate before moving on to the House Program.

Can my child us their own equipment?

Yes, As long as the helmet has a valid sticker and the equipment is in good working order. All equipment should fit properly.

Why are there two different programs?

Having two programs allows us to make hockey accessible to as many families as possible by giving families multiple options for acquiring gear.

Learn to Play

Learn to Play is designed for players age 5-9 that have have completed 0-1 sessions of an introductory hockey program. No skating experience is necessary.

Practices:

Practices will be held Tuesday evenings from 6:00-6:45pm at the University of Illinois Ice Rink located at: 406 E Armory Ave, Champaign, IL 61820.

Plan for the first practice to be 10/14.

Cost:

$135 session only

$40 for rental gear (if needed)

*USA Hockey Number required to sign up
